Holiday Interlude

Pepsi Cola has come out with their "Holiday Spice" limited edition holiday soft drink. I noticed that the label pointedly avoided mention of just what those "spices" are, but like the caffeine-addicted freak I am, I went ahead and snagged a bottle. "I'll just try it," I thought, "After all, I like Vanilla Coke."

And?

What brainiac at Pepsico thought it was an even remotely good idea to blend cola with cinnamon and ginger??? "No way," I thought. "I'm imagining things. There is no way that I'm tasting what I think I'm tasting."

Heh.

Go see for yourself.

The cola even has an extra shot of Red #40 for that cheery holiday message of, "Not only do we want to outrage your tastebuds, we also want to make sure you get that critical dose of carcenogenic food coloring agent you always wanted."

In short, I think this stuff is nasty. Imbibe at your own risk. I think that the only thing that will get this taste out of my mouth is a cat's ass.

Ewww.

I read somewhere that we would be seeing more sharp spices, like ginger & cinammin in foods because of the increase in immigrants from Asia & the Middle East, where those flavors are desired. (Mental note to self--find out where you saw it & post it!)
Just as Italian immigrants brought oregano & basil, and Mexican cilantro is everywhere, so to will we see new spices, or old spices used in new ways, as America continues to morph.

The melting pot, don't you know!

Um... I was thinking (and that's always a dangerous thing) but perhaps we should have like our own message board or even a comments section on our main HCBA webpage?

Whatda ya'll think?

Posted by: Ethne at December 2, 2004 10:30 PM

Ya mean like a forum? You mention it, it's as good as volunteering...

Kidding!

Would a tagboard work? Not that I mind checking and seeing 6 (count 'em) comments on one post during the space of an afternoon!

But seriously, should we set up a forum or a tagboard? If we want a tagboard, who can recommend a good one? I hear those silly things crash all the time...

And where is that g*d*m*f* cat, already???

Can't do tagboards - the bastards at work block them. I think I have a satisfactory web board if everyone is interested. Does this mean I too get a title? You know how I thrive on attention. ;)

Prepare to catch airdropped kitty (I'm shipping the evil one to you. :D )

Is that airdropped, or dropkicked? :P

The web board works for me. (Put it to a vote!)

I like Ginger and Cinammon but I can't see it going well with a cola. Like cherry coke. Bleurgh!

I'm a fanatic Coke fan, so it always annoyed me when I saw Coke coming out with something new, and Pepsi blindly following suit (vanilla, cherry, etc). Now we see why the marketing dept at Pepsi is a "me too" crowd. They can't seem to come up with a good original idea on their own.

Sidenote: did anyone see the episode of "The Apprentice" where the teams had to produce new bottles for "Pepsi Edge"? The dual-globe-compass-top-barbell bottle was hilarious.
