Fire Dan Rather

Beldar offers up the most well-reasoned argument why Dan Rather and his cronies should be fired, effective immediately.

A mistake is one thing, stubbornly defending fraudulent documents is another. This has gone beyond the pale of journalistic error, and has ventured into the realm of purposely defrauding the public.

Go read Beldar's post, and add your voice to those taking responsibility for contacting CBS News to demand the immediate release of Dan Rather and the managers and supervisors who gave the go-ahead to the 60 Minutes II broadcast on September 8th.

It is the only responsible thing for CBS to do.

Not that I am a fan of Imus, but I thought this quote was hysterical:
"Watchin' Dan Rather do the news, he looks like he's making a hostage tape. They should have guys in ski masks and AK-47s just standing off to the side..."
--Don Imus, Imus: America's Cowboy, 1999.

MAKE HIM APOLOGIZE TO OUR PRESIDENT FIRST. FIRE HIM SECOND AND THIRD, BRING CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST HIM!!! KEEP THE PRESS ACCOUNTABLE! I'LL NEVER WATCH CBS AGAIN UNLESS THIS IS DONE.

Posted by: carmen at September 21, 2004 08:30 PM

Dan Rather lied, covered up and lied again. CBS, SHOW HIM THE DOOR!

Posted by: gARRETT at September 21, 2004 08:30 PM

I have not watched Dan Rather since he walked off the set during the news years ago. I agree with carmen! Dan should be made to apologize, he should be fired and then charges should be filed for something. The media should not be able to just do whatever they want.

Imis was out of line to say that.

he should not make light of the beheadings. That goes to far.

But Dan needs to be fired -- soon.

He was not duped. He was the one doing the dupeing.

The Liberal Press is at it again. Nothing short of a firing of Mr Rather is acceptable. Dan your "NOT THE MAN".

John, I agree with you on the necessity of respect for the beheaded hostages, but Imus said that back in 1999. It had nothing to do with current events in Iraq.

Should somebody start an online petition to see if we can get him axed? And when did he walk off the set, and what was the reason?

Hi Mark,

That action is already underway. The place to visit is here. They offer lists of CBS affiliates, stations, contacts, fax numbers, etc. The folks running the site I just linked have also been actively forwarding letters of outrage from concerned citizens to CBS.

The reference to Dan Rather walking off the set has to do with a temper fit he threw in 1987. He was angry that the broadcast of a tennis tournament delayed his newscast. Front Page Mag has an interesting article outlining some of his more outrageous behavior. What I find telling is that he has never been able to act with complete journalistic integrity, as you'll find if you just Google around a bit.

dont you people get it? all dan rather does is read from a teleprompter. he just reads what some guy puts in front of him. the real blame here lies with the 60 minutes producers, but i dont see anyone calling for their heads on a platter?

Posted by: john at September 24, 2004 01:45 AM

Have you all forgotten? That guy who bopped Rather in Chicago in '68 knew what he was all about and gave him his comeuppance way back then.

GET RID OF THAT DEMOCRAT MINDED SCOUNDREL!

CBS screwed up by protecting Rather. They should get rid of him now. We want to hear from honest journalists who do not tell us the news and leave the decisions up to the public. How insulting it is to have people who are supposed to be trusted lie to the American public like he did. He knew very well that the papers were fraudulent before he released them. I no longer watch CBS. I turn it off. Take note advertisers, many of us do not watch CBS.

i will not watch CBS as long as I live. People like Dan Rather are maggots of the society. Rather is a liar and human waste. Go to hell Dan Rather.

It's interesting that you are all wanting to get rid of Dan Rather but I don't see anything with respect to the FOX reporter, Carl Cameron. It seems that he is allowed to make up bogus quotes about Kerry, but I guess that's okay. At least Rather thought that he was reporting what was fact while Cameron reports his own made up information.

If you want to get rid of Rather then I suggest that you search out every reporter that has made a mistake and have their networks axe them as well. Stop being so one sided!!

Dan Rather should be charged in a federal
court with trying to rig the upcoming election,
and the biassed CBS should be barred from
coverage since they can't be trusted to tell
the truth.

Posted by: steve at October 6, 2004 09:36 PM

I,m watching CBS to get a list of all their sponsor advertisersso that I can boycott all of them I,ll continue to boycott those products and notify each of the same until Dan Rather and his ultra bias is gone forever.

Dan claims to be an ex-Marine in his autobiography but one report said he quit boot camp after 49 days. Shades of Al Gore and the internet !

The great irony is that no matter how much Dan Rather and his liberal cronies tried to influence the election, always calling it too close to call, drumming up the scenario of another Florida 2000, president Bush won handily last night. Dan Rather has outgrown his usefullness long ago, he is a pampered elitist with no intention of reporting the news, but "rather" to generate his own spin. I find him repulsive and abusive. He, Edwards and Kerry share more than just their liberalviews, none of them have much credibility. Just as Kerry made up his accusations against Bush in the campaign, Rather made up his negative stories about Bush. One great gift CBS can give the country this Christmas, a forwarding address for Dan.

You just got your wish:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/11/23/entertainment/main657295.shtml

Dan Rather is resigning the News Anchor position at CBS effective in March 2005.

Posted by: Ian at November 23, 2004 06:19 PM

Dan Bladder should b fired from 60 minutes and gotten rid of BEFORE March 2005. CBS is no better than Dan B. I will not watch any of their news programs and now only watch the Fox News Channel. These so called news reporters are only READERS and are Liberals and just promote their agendas. Get everyone to email CBS and tell them you have stopped watching their channel. Maybe a petition should be started and everyone who signs it also forward it to CBS. If there are enough emails, CBS will pay attention.

Posted by: Bob at November 27, 2004 02:21 AM

Dan Rather has been judged and found guilty by CBS own investigating team. He should be fired now just like the other four, not allowed to leave in March with and appearance of respectivity. He was wrong then and tried to brazen his way through it. Now he must pay the price
